I was in a house, where it seemed like a lot was going on. One element was that it was suddenly my job or duty to go grab a puppy from a backroom for a couple who were interested in adopting it and had suddenly arrived. The other element was that simultaneously my mom was hosting a dinner or cocktail party. I went into the backroom, grabbed the dog, which was maybe like a puppy version of Toto from Wizard of Oz; he was pretty small and had a gray, wiry coat. I brought him into the kitchen area for the couple to consider. Then I suddenly was in the living room area where guests were hanging out for the party, as I apparently had some inclination to adjust the lighting in the room. At first I made it too bright, like it was overwhelmingly bright and too white. So then I found some compromise with which lights were on or off, and used the dimmer to adjust the intensity of the ones that were on. It seemed better, but then a guy off to the side showed me a different control panel that made that whole adjustment/tuning process easier to manage, so it felt like I’d done a bit of extra tinkering that was a bit unnecessary.
So then I went back into the kitchen, where I reconnected with the couple interested in adopting the puppy. Suddenly the object of focus/attention was a small clear plastic box that looked to be a suitable home for a gecko or spider perhaps. I remember the guy expressing doubt and hesitation about the adoption. He said something about worrying that he couldn’t fulfill his obligation/responsibility to take care of it as he should, because of some regulatory changes that came through in the wake of the pandemic. I looked inside this cage and saw something more like a mouse that was in a fabric pouch of some kind; just his head was sticking out. It definitely was more like a rodent than a puppy now. Then I noticed a partition between the animal’s area and a top section that was full of feed-stuffs, presumably. It looked like a mass of live worms, crickets, and centipedes. The girl from the adoption couple asked me to put a red worm down in the lower area for a feeding. I didn’t really want to just reach into that compartment, so she handed me a mechanical pencil and advised me to extend the lead out in order to stab the worm to effectively hook it and pick it up. I found a red one, but then once I got it hooked, it was gray and appeared more like a woven shoestring than a worm. So I put it in the bottom area, then continued to look through the slew of stuff in the top. I found a different really big gray worm and felt compelled to point it out to her, like ‘whoa check the size of this one!’
