At first I was watching an F1 street race that turned into some mayhem. My perspective was from the outside edge of a right-hander. Grosjean in the Lotus basically got into a pack of cars that got bunched up going into the corner, then there were some coming-togethers/collisions which caused many of them to get sideways, miss the turn and end up in the runoff area. Then suddenly I had more of a hybrid perspective of being a spectator and sitting in the driver’s seat as Grosjean, who was able to reverse out of the off-track tangle, then got back onto the circuit. He got going again, up to speed. So then my perspective changed again to a spectator view off to the right side of a straight, where I looked back toward the prior corner. After Grosjean sped past, several other cars who got themselves sorted retook to the track and were battling down the straight. Interestingly, the cars now were more like off-road Jeeps with F1 liveries, and they were jockeying for position and banging into each other as they drove by. One of them was a red Ferrari, and I tended to focus more on that one as this smaller group passed by. Then suddenly it was like I was doing a meal delivery job, to pick up sandwiches from a restaurant that Grosjean had ordered for his team. I arrived and was handed the bag, noticing that it felt a bit light; I assumed the team would consist of at least a dozen guys or more, so although I’m sure it was a nice gesture, I guessed that each guy might only get a bite or two of actual sustenance out of it. As I picked up the order, the lady from behind the counter asked me if I might be able to also deliver this other order that was marked for delivery; she wondered whether it was perhaps assigned to me as well. She said it was for Daniel in the building right next door, who I knew as my former colleague, who was an asset manager/investment advisor. I explained that normally I’d be happy to help out, drop it off, as a favor for her and an opportunity to see a former work buddy, however, in this case I wouldn’t be able to because it would violate the rules of conduct in my contract with the delivery company if I were to swipe an order from another driver.
