Dream: Pole-Fitting

I recall being at a ski resort with a bunch of people. The main focus became about getting some ski poles ready for the kids who’d be skiing.  I remember there being about four poles in a small bundle, and they weren’t typical.  They were more like something that came from the hardware store, no handles or baskets; they were gray.  I’m not sure whether they were metal or plastic — they had a dual-piece telescopic-like construction, like one diameter conduit inside of another with larger diameter.  This provided the opportunity to adjust their respective length by sliding the pieces.

I then had a conversation with a girl who was going to be snowboarding, and she wanted to use one of these poles for balance and improving her form.  This wasn’t so absurd, as I’ve seen beginner snow-boarders practice balancing a pole horizontally.  I relayed a pointer from one of my first snowboarding instructors about keeping hands out front, similar to how a boxer might hold up their guard– it encouraged good posture and less flailing, etc.  My sister was standing next to me at this time, and I don’t remember what she said exactly, if anything, I just got the sense that she reiterated or reinforced what I said.  Then I got the idea to bend the pole for the girl so that it was more like a large U-shaped set of handle-bars, so the hand position became wider, but the hands still were connected and in a good position.

Then I seemed to get busy wrapping white athletic-style tape around the bottom where the baskets would normally be, as a way of fixing the length.  Once I did that, I then focused on the upper area, where the handle would go. I first wrapped it in tape, like the bottom, but then I also added some bubble-wrap, but it all seemed to add-up to too much, so it was too fat to grip easily and also made it too top-heavy to be good at its primary purpose– balance.

After I got that sorted for the kids, I seemed to realize suddenly that there weren’t enough poles to go around for all of us.  I thought my blue poles were along with this bundle, but I didn’t see them, so I guess we were short a few.

I’m not sure if this next part was in conjunction with this same dream, or perhaps a flash of a subsequent dream, but, the gist of it was that there was a shift in focus to a toddler who looked quite familiar.  He/she looked a lot like my sister’s daughter, who has that peas-in-a-pod shaped face, along with myself, my mom and sister, but in this case she was wearing a blond boy-band wig with swept bangs.  She was sitting in a chair, at a table– maybe it was one of those high-chairs with the desk-like surface attached in front.  Then there was some joke in the conversation about her being Justin Bieber’s gay younger sibling.
